Finding a tradesperson you trust is tricky. How do you know what to look out for? Especially in this day and age when everyone thinks they can turn their hand to anything and become an expert overnight. You can’t. It takes years of experience and training to be trusted with a customers hard earned and saved money to be able to meet their expectations.
A new driveway/garden area really makes a property, and gives it kerb appeal to stand out from the crowd of houses in a street. It’s personal too. What suits one does not suit all. And that is where the tradesperson with experience can really come into their own. You can tell experience and training when it comes to listening to the customer’s needs and wants. They should be able to give ideas and a variety of them so you can make an informed decision and not talked into what would be an easier job for them.
Never let someone who has knocked on your door take on your driveway in the blink of an eye.
In the age of the internet, do research online. Look at their reviews, and the quality/variation of the reviews. A good, reputable company can provide references, usually both online and physical photos of work they have produced. There are various places online to find reviews –check out their website for professionalism – Checkatrade, Trustatrader, Yell, Google reviews, facebook and Twitter and many more.
It can be a mine field if you get bogged down too much but a great, professional, reputable, established company should stand out a mile from doing on or two checks online.
The tradesperson you meet at initial consultation is also a very telling indicator. Are they dressed smartly? Can they communicate well and are personable? Everyone has a preference and a feeling you get when meeting someone and cannot be explained really!
Don’t ignore first impressions as they are usually spot on!
